Patching Advisory - Adobe Reader

This advisory is to notify you of a potential problem with Adobe Reader updates that are currently being released by Adobe.

 
We have two documented cases where the following has happened following Adobe Reader updates. All or some of the following problems have occurred in both cases.

  • the Microsoft desktop is reset
  • all icons, shortcuts and Internet favorites are deleted
  • all icons pinned to the task bar in Windows 7 have been removed

If you have a high need to install the current round of Adobe Reader updates we would suggest that you make sure that all available security updates, patches and driver updates are applied prior to running the Adobe Reader update. Alternatively you could download and install the full redistributable install from Adobe for those that have access to this.

As always we recommend that you test this in a non-production environment prior to rolling out across your network.

We will advise of any further information that comes to light on this issue.
